Destinations

A collection of visual field notes and observations from the places I return to most. These galleries move beyond the single frame to capture the true essence, light, and atmosphere of a specific location over time.

Sombrio Beach

Rainforest meets a shoreline of smooth stones and cold-water surf.  Kelp-strewn beach and a hidden waterfall between mossy canyon walls. A high-exposure environment along the Juan de Fuca Strait, where the ocean brings a constant, salt-heavy mist that clings to the tall trees.

Tofino

Vast, hard-packed sand flats and rhythmic foaming waves. Where the road ends at the far western edge of Canada. A place of powerful winter storms and lazy surf days. Where orcas pass through rocky channels and never ending horizons.

Race Rocks

Small exposed rock outcrops sit in powerful currents of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, surrounded by dense marine life. Sea lions bark and haul out for a rest after playing in the kelp forest below. A lighthouse stands alone in a harsh, minimal landscape framed by distant mountains.

Goldstream Park

Towering old-growth trees line a winding river just minutes from the city. Most of the year it’s a quiet green forest of shallow pools and small waterfalls, but each season reshapes the park. Fall brings spawning salmon and scavenging eagles and bears, while winter settles into a brief, snow-covered stillness.

Telegraph Cove

A small, historic boardwalk village sits weathered and remote in a sheltered inlet. Boats, docks, and daily tides reflect deep ties to the working coast. Beyond the cove, these waters are orca, bear, and dolphin territory, where wildlife presence is a constant.

San Josef Bay

A remote, open bay at the edge of Cape Scott Provincial Park, wide sand flats and grassy dunes. Sculpted sea stacks and rock formations along a beach that feels spacious and airy. Long tides and long sunsets stretch time, reinforcing the sense of distance and quiet at the far edge of the island.

Mystic Beach

A rugged stretch of beach along the Juan de Fuca Trail, where dense coastal rainforest gives way temporarily. A waterfall spills directly onto the beach, a cold, loud, and refreshing stop after hiking in. A classic, simple, and timeless west coast mood.
